I think these are my new favorites...

So, while I've been obsessing over bobby pins, subway art, and vinyl.... I also have been making some fun magnet clothespins. I absolutely LOVE the way they turned out. Here are some fun pics. I can't decide which are my favorite. My fridge is sure colorful right now!!!

DIY -- Glue Dots

I love glue dots! They are so useful in scrapbooking and just crafts in general. But, they can be expensive. Years ago, someone shared this tip with me on m
aking my own glue dots. It is so easy. Here is a pic:

I save my glue dot rolls after I've used up the original glue dots. Then, I use Aleene's Tack-It Over and Over glue. (I bought mine at Michael's using my 40% off, so it was about 3.50).

I have made over a thousand glue dots and my bottle is still half full! I just keep redoing this every few months when I run out! So easy.

Lay your strips flat (this would also work with wax paper) and drop little dots (if you want bigger glue dots, make them bigger). Allow it to dry overnight and up to 24 hours. When they are clear, they are dry and you can roll them up and use them for any project that requires glue dots!

Have fun crafting!

Fabric Card Tutorial

Welcome!

In this post, I will be detailing the steps on making one of my fabric cards. I wanted you to see how much effort goes into each card. That way, you can feel good about your purchases, or if you want to, you can make your own cards! I sell the completed cards in sets on my etsy shop, but I also sell just the shapes so you can make your own cards!

Here are the steps:

1) Choose out the fabrics for your project:

2) Iron on special interfacing:

3) Peel off the back paper portion:

4) Design your shapes in the computer for the Silhouette to cut the fabric.

5) Position the fabric on the cutting mat and let the machine do the cutting:
6) After the machine has cut the fabric in the desired shapes, I like to trim it up so it is nice and neat if there have been any snags:

7) Once you have cut all desired shapes from all your different fabrics, match them all up to make sure you like the look.

8) Cut out a rectangle from the background fabric and iron all the shapes (one layer at a time) onto the rectangle.

9) Wash it!

10) Dry it! (this give it a great frayed look) -- of course you don't have to wash and dry it, if you don't want this look!

11) Choose out a pice of patterned paper that coordinates nicely:

12) Sew the fabric onto the paper with a matching thread:

13) Print out your sentiment on the inside of a piece of white cardstock, lining it up so when you cut it in half the sentiment will be where you want it.
14) Adhere the paper with fabric to the front of your card after you've folded it nicely. And... YOU ARE DONE!!!!
You now have an adorable, blue, green, and yellow fabric birdhouse with the words, "Welcome Home" printed on the inside. You could also print "Thanks for making our house a home" on the inside. Wouldn't that make a fabulous Mother's Day sentiment?

So, are you ready to make some cards? Here are a few links to some etsy posting where you can buy shapes to make your own cards. Or, if this totally overwhelmed you, I sell the completed cards in sets as well.

Exciting new stuff!

Just a few pictures of some of my newest stuff! Here are fabric cards:

Inside says: "Sending you a tweet" in a cute green font.

I love this one! Inside it says "hippo birdie two ewe!" LOVE IT!

This one is blank inside -- an all occasion card, for Mother's day, a Thank you card, get well, etc.

This one says, "Welcome Home" inside. A perfect card for those college kids coming home for the summer, someone getting home from a mission or any other extended stay.

I'm so in love with these colors! It just makes me happy and excited for SUMMER! These are large letters -- the S is 6 1/2 inches high, just to give you an idea. So many possibilities for using this sign!

I'll be posting all of these things on my etsy shop, so go check it out here!

Happy Easter towels

I made a few towels for friends for Easter this past week. Here are the pictures.

I love having fun little things like this around the house for different holidays and seasons. On one of the towels, I chose a fabric just a bit TOO close to the shade of the towel, making the "Easter" hard to read. Oops.

My kids keep asking me if they can dry their hands on the towel.
"No!" I say.
"But Mom, Easter is over!"

If only they knew how long it took me to sew on each letter, even with a machine! They'd never use it as a towel! Gasp! :) Maybe next year.

Happy Creating.

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog, Fabrics and Fonts!

This is where I'll feature posts about, you guessed it, fabrics and fonts! Two of my absolute favorite things. Imagine, being able to have any fabric you want cut out in the size and shape of your favorite fonts!

Here is one of the first signs I made, just in time for spring.

I also make all sorts of shapes and fun things out of fabric. So, enjoy this blog. I
'll hopefully post tutorials and ideas on what you can do with fabric.
